P90x Classic Day 19 - Kenpo X - Part 3

Welp, I do love the Kenpo X day. Did a planned semi cheat day so I didn't track food today. That being said this will be a short post. Can't wait to start a new week in prep for round 2!

P90x Classic Day 18 - Legs and back - Part 3

So since I got to bed in the wee hours this morning I didn't do my workout till this afternoon. I did Abs right after as well. Such a TOUGH FRIGGIN WORKOUT. BUT I did it! All the way through, no stalls no breaks (well on the main) had to pause the vid on Ab Rippers so I could get in 25 of everything. I Brought it today. Been bringing it everyday but today felt different. I felt stronger, like I'm finally able to do the exercises without feeling like dying afterwords. I work harder than I ever have and the next day the soreness is more minimal than usual. I attribute that in part to the chocolate milk. It's a life saver I'm telling you. I drink an 8 oz chug right after a workout and I'm right as rain. Tomorrow is Kenpo X and then I get a  week of yoga and stretching and such. Can't wait! Then I start phase two! (bites nails). Hope I am ready. I am definitely ready to put up new weight, body fat and size stats.

Looking forward to Kenpo tomorrow! One of my favorites. I feel so good tonight. So much energy.

P90x Classic Day 17 - Yoga X - Part 3

Got behind since I had a project come up that took me into the wee hours. Like 3am into the wee hours. Anyhoo not much to report for this day other than I am really getting addicted to Yoga. I love the Yin and Yang aspect of it all. Calm in the storm etc. I especially love how my kids are getting into it. My 11 year old son and 5 year old daughter both love it! And when it was done the 5 year old wanted to do more so I put it on for her :D

P90x Classic Day 16 - Arms and Shoulders - Part 3

Crazy how weak my right arm is compared to my left. When starting P90x I decided to favor the weak limbs so they can catch up to the strong ones. My right arm with 20 lb curls would be beat by 10, my left could easily go another 20. I am left handed so that makes some sense, but can't believe it is to that extreme. When I did my measurements I found my left arm was a full inch bigger around than my right. gyarr. Anyway hope it catches up soon. It's annoying lol.

Got Ab Rippers tonight and then I will update with my meals and percentages. Today so far I am right on my percentages. Let's hope they stay that way after dinner.

Update:

Ab rippers done tonight. My son did them with me so it was even more fun. There are a couple exercises on that one that I don't care for but I do them anyway lol. I'll do it until I like it I guess!

It's late so I'm going to post my meals so I can get to bed since tomorrow is 90 minutes of Yoga X and I'd like to get up early enough to do all 90 without breaking it up. Oh btw, hit my percentages almost dead on today!!

P90x Classic Day 15 - Plyometrics - Part 3

3rd round of plyometrics done! Every morning I do plyo is the day I want to sleep in lol. But Once I get in it about 15 minutes then I am all set to go. The chocolate milk after is most welcome. I went over my calories a bit somehow and didn't get my percentages right. A bit frustrating but as I look over the day I can see where it happened. Best I can do is keep plugging away. Tomorrow is arms and shoulders and another round of Ab Ripper X. I notice I get tired earlier at night but that's due to getting up so early and getting so much exercise. Feels good though!

P90x Classic Day 14 - Chest and Back/Ab Ripper X - Part 3!

Yes you heard it right folks. I finished Chest and Back workout number 3. I have definitely improved over the last 2 weeks. I can still only do one unassisted pull up so I still need the chair for that, but I've pushed the chair farther out so it's much harder. I also was able to reach my goals on all of the push up rounds and I need to increase my weights on all of the dumbbell rounds. Will be doing Ab Ripper X tonight. Great day so far!

Later:

AB RIPPER X! I did all my crunchy frogs!! Actually almost did all 349 sit up exercises. Closer than I have before anyway. I was impressed with how much I was able to do compared to even last week.

I also did the best I have done on my percentages. Got 51% protein and lower carbs than I've had to date. I'll post the pie chart as usual below. I am looking forward to the rest week but I hear it's almost as tough as the weight weeks. I guess I'm mostly excited because only a couple weeks until I can measure myself and take my 30 day pics. Looking forward to seeing how and where I have improved. I have a quote I've used a lot the last 15 years that goes "I'm quite buff under all this flab!" I am anxious to finally watch the flab go so I can see the buffness. Over all I feel better. I still tire daily from all the exercise and stringent diet but that tells me it's working. It's hard to put faith in a 90 day program hoping it will pan out, but I have confidence that if I stick to it, I will see great results. I've already changed my perception on my eating and plan to start insanity shortly after finishing P90x.

P90x Classic Day 13 - Rest Day - Stretch X

Ahh Sunday, rest day. Today I get to relax and enjoy the benefits of last week. Drinking a blueberry, yogurt and vanilla whey protein smoothie this morning and I think in a bit I will try out Stretch X since it's one of the things I can do on my rest day. I didn't have a rest day last week since I started p90x on Tuesday so I've been working out everyday for 12 days straight. It will be good to have a day off but I'm looking forward to starting another week. I'm really starting to feel stronger in so many areas. I feel mentally better too, less stress than usual. Not that I'm a stressed out person but I do a lot of mentally stressful work in my profession and this last couple of weeks things have gone very smooth.

I'll put my diet for today up later tonight. Last night was a lot of fun, I ate great food at Mimi's Cafe and then went and saw True Grit. Awesome movie. You know it's no secret that I love food, I love GOOD food, my problem in the past is I've never managed it and I let myself get less active. P90x has been an eye opener to me on how good a body can feel when you give it what it needs and wants. Balance is the key.

P90x Classic Day 12 - Kenpo X - Part 2

Today's workout was AWESOME. Yoga X and Kenpo X are my favorite workouts. This is the one workout where I can keep up with them from start to finish. I have integrated Chocolate milk as a recovery drink at the end of my workouts and I can already notice a difference in energy and recovery. Today it was well deserved.

I decided to make Saturdays a bit of a cheat day mainly because I find I'm having a hard time even getting 1400-1500 calories each week. I remember in the past cheat days helped a lot so I'm trying it out to see how they go. Last week I cheated some and think I did awesome last week. I figure if I am eating 1500 calories a day and exercising my guts out 6 days a week for around 1.5 hours a pop, I can give myself a bit of a cheat. Won't happen though unless I make it through all 6 days of workouts. It's a good goal and I'm happy with it. Guess time will tell if it hoses me or not :D

P90x Classic Day 11 - Legs and Back - Part 2

Well I didn't get much sleep last night but I feel pretty energetic today none-the-less. I had a protein shake for breakfast and will be doing my workout here in a bit I will update today's post more once I get through more of the day!

Legs and back were a total beast. Next to Plyometrics it is probably the toughest for me. I did Ab Ripper X right after since I had the day off and it was insane.

P90x Classic Day 10 - Yoga X - Part 2

Missed writing last night thanks to pulling a near all nighter so I thought I would update this morning. Was a great day yesterday. Stayed in my percentages almost the whole day. Got some Vanilla whey protein which is SO much better than the strawberry! Also got to do Yoga X which was awesome! It's a very tough but rewarding workout. All of my kids did it with me. It was awesome.

My kids doing ohms with me.
It was a lot of fun sharing the experience with them. They are a thousand times more flexible than me of course. :D

Almost 2 full weeks into it! Just today's workout and tomorrow and then Sunday I rest and get ready for the third and final week of this set. I have to say even though my wife and friends say they are noticing some big differences, I'm still not seeing a huge change yet other than I do feel like my body is firming up underneath the fat :D I am confident though that by the time I hit day 30 I will notice some decent results when comparing 30 day to 0 day pics and I am also confident that 30-60 days will yield some awesome results. It's the whole "believing is seeing concept" Focus on the roots and the fruits you want will come in time.

I decided to try something else with meals. I am going to paste in the screens from Livestrong so you can see exactly what I eat. I may go into my other entries and update them this way as well.

P90x Classic Day 9 - Arms and Shoulders - Part 2

Welp, another day down. Arms and shoulders are finished. That's one that I never feel until the next day lol. I am sure tomorrow I will be struggling to pick up a pen. :D So I read around that chocolate milk makes a good recovery drink so I am trying that after my workouts. I also did my ab ripper x tonight. Getting better at it but still slow. I did a LOT more of it than I could the previous times. It's brutal on the core. Not much else to say tonight so I'll just list my stuff.

Breakfast:
Strawberry whey protein smoothie with peaches and plain yogurt.
1 cup 1% chocolate milk
Snack:
Pure PB Protein bar
Lunch:
Carls Jr Side salad with canned chicken
Snack:
2 pieces Wrigleys Extra gum
Dinner:
3 Tortilla melts 2 with Avocodo
Snack:
Chocolate Whey Protein shake

Total Calories - 1533
Protein - 39%
Fat - 35%
Carbs 25%

Not happy with the percentages but I think I know where I am falling short so I will pick up tomorrow.

P90x Classic Day 8 - Plyometrics - Part 2

Plyometrics is the only routine on this thing that makes me feel like I can't make it all the way through. It's brutal and unforgiving. I love it! By the time I finish it I am in such a good mood that I am still alive I can hardly stand it!

I am having a hard time getting my percentages figured out. I didn't eat enough today either. You need so much protein this first phase! I ate a good amount of veg today, but not enough meat. I did however make up a new meal that I ate for dinner. SO tasty. You take a low carb whole wheat tortilla (Mission) and cut it in fourths and put on a baking sheet. you then put thin sliced skim mozzarella on each quarter, then a few drops of Tobasco on the cheese and broil it in the oven until the cheese is melted and just barely starting to brown on top. Pull from the oven and put fresh sliced Avocodo on each piece and eat! It was so good and I had so many calories left over that I had 2. Going to become a regular in my diet for sure! Here's a pic.

I really have a love hate relationship with Plyometrics because it's so tough, yet so rewarding. I am sure I will be paying for it tomorrow. I got several bursts of high energy today which I haven't had since starting so I think my body is finally starting to get use to the diet changes and the intense amount of exercise.

I am also struggling not knowing my weight or changes. I know that isn't a requirement and just a personal choice but I am so used to weight change determining my process that it sometimes tended to affect me mentally and prevent me from doing the work. Now it's a game of faith and knowing that if I do the work the results will come. I haven't seen big results yet but I am just barely a week into this. I know that in 30 - 40 days I will really start noticing the results so I have to just hang in there and do the best I can on my nutrition and workouts. Get my percentages right and move from there. That said, here's my food intake for the day:

Breakfast:
After workout peach smoothy with yogurt and whey protein

Snack:
Pure Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein bar

Lunch:
Carl's Jr. side salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing

Dinner:
2 of the Avocodo tortilla things I mentioned above

Snack:
Smoothie with strawberry whey protein, 1 cup blueberries, ice and water
Pure protein chocolate chip bar

Total Calories - 1146
Protein - 37%
Carbs - 34%
Fats - 29%

As you can see I need to lower my fats and up my protein. Just wasn't hungry enough tonight to eat those eggs and broccoli. I will work hard tomorrow to make the right percentages. Maybe make the eggs in the morning if I have time before work. Also the balsamic vineagrette from Carl's Jr. is crap. Tastes great but found it has like 480 mg of sodium!! The salad however is awesome. Baby spinach, romaine and other types of lettuce, tomato, very good greens and only a buck fifty. I will be getting that again only next time I will bring my own dressing. Probably the mango one I had yesterday that was so good and so much better nutritionally.

Until tomorrow.... I will sleep and then I will BRING IT!!

P90x Classic Day 7 - Chest and Back/Ab Ripper X - Part 2

Well I did Chest and Back for the second time. I have to say I did much much better than the first time I did it! A good example of progress is round 2 the first time, I couldn't do even on decline pushup and today second round I did 6. It was a good day over all. Not a lot of problem with eating, nutrition is going well. I have plenty of energy for my workouts. I was also able to knock out Ab Ripper X this morning right after Chest and Back. Tough but rewarding. That's a toughie, I feel like a floppy fish whenever I do the ab work.

I still feel tired on and off throughout the day. In reading on Beachbody it will work itself out, removing toxins, getting used to all the food going to energy for your muscles and such. Better than last week though. Getting used to doing so many workouts a week is tough, yet I find my self craving the next work out.

Update: Here were my meals and percentages for this day

Breakfast:
Peach Smoothie (see previous posts for ingredients
Snack:
CLIF bar almond fudge
Lunch:
Burger King side salad with low cal Mango dressing (not from BK) and topped with Albacore tuna
Snack:
Premiere Twisted chocolate protein bar
Dinner:
2 Tuna melts - Low carb tortillas, tuna, mustard, skim mozzarella grilled in a pan with very little 0 cal cooking spray
Snack:
Bartlett Pear
Chocolate whey protein shake
Neuro Bliss Drink

Calorie total - 1420
Protein - 42%
Fat - 23%
Carbs - 35%

Still need to figure out how to get my ratios to 50/30/20

P90x Classic Day 6 - Kempo X

Today went rather well. It was a bit weird though because as I write this I've had only 1000 calories today and am not hungry. I know that I need more than that but i think because of yesterday I just wasn't very hungry. Anyway I did a kick butt Kenpo X session today. I can tell it is going to be one of my favorite workouts! I was sweating like crazy and felt great the entire time. Got to go to bed for my workout tomorrow but here's my food totals for the day.

Breakfast:
Smoothy with strawberry whey protein and raspberries

Lunch:
Peanut butter on a low carb tortilla

Dinner:
Low carb tortilla pizza with tomato sauce onion white turkey bell pepper mushrooms and skim mozzarella.

Evening snack:
Strawberry protein shake with peaches.

P90x Classic Day 5 - Legs and Back

Yesterday didn't go as I had hoped workout wise. I woke up late and had a bunch of deadlines to finish up, plus I was hosting  a big Lord of the Rings party so I only got half of my workout in and no ab ripper x. I was going to try to make up for it today by throwing in the last 30 minutes and the ab ripper x this morning and then Kempo X tonight, but I don't want to injure myself with all that so I may just take the defeat, do Kempo X today and then start fresh tomorrow.

I planned on having a few cheat items yesterday since I knew the party was on that day. I had my post workout protein shake and then didn't track much of the rest but it came out to a Veggielicious sandwich on whole wheat chiabata bread, a couple slices of Pizza, a piece of cake, a few Oreos and chips, 3 hot wings, 5 beanie weenies in a blanket and a ton of water, and a couple glasses of Diet Dew. Then everything goes blurry from their because it was very late by that time :D

I will write a new post for todays success in a little while after I get my nutrition on and my Kempo X done.

One nice thing was even after just a week, I was getting compliments on how I was toning. Even an old friend on Facebook wrote and complimented my biceps on a picture that was taken during the party.

One week in, a bunch more to go!!

P90x Classic Day 4 - Yoga X

LOVED Yoga X !! Wow, it was tougher than I figured it would be. I was sweating buckets by the end, but it's that whole Yin Yang concept of being in extreme discomfort and totally relaxed at the same time. Crazy. So it's tough getting the workouts in when wanted. This one is 90 minutes and so I ended up doing the last half this evening. I think I may either start working out in the evening, or have to go to bed extra early. I'm such a night person so it's hard to force my self to bed early especially with 4 kids.

Food wasn't much different but my fats were too high today. Carbs were right on the money.

Breakfast:
Multiberry Smoothie with Body Fortress protein

Snack:
Pure Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter bar
Emerald Cocoa Roast 100 calorie pack almonds

Lunch:
Low carb wrap with chicken, salsa, mozzarella and baby spinach

Snack:
Red Bartlett Pear
Half of a Clif Chocolate Chip Bar

Dinner:
Low carb tortilla pizza with ground white turkey breast, mushrooms, green peppers, tomato sauce, onions and skim mozzarella.

Snack:
1/4th banana
Protein shake

Totals:
Protein 42%   Fat: 28%   Carbs: 30%

Think the extra cheese on the lunch put me ahead on the Fats so I'll keep that in mind for tomorrow.

Starting to enjoy P90x more and more. A long way to go but almost a week complete!! Even with the soreness, the nutrition is the most difficult part but I am determined to follow that part well.

Bring it!!

P90x Classic Day 3 - Shoulders and Arms / Ab Ripper X

The warm up was the toughest part of my workout today. Mainly because I'm still coming down off of the first Chest,Back and Abs workout and the Plyometrics. Once I got through the warmups though I felt nice and stretched and was able to do the Shoulders and arms. Again thanks to me not waking up until 6:15 I didn't have time for Ab Ripper X so I will be knocking that out this evening. Going well so far but since I didn't start until Tuesday and don't want to work out on Sundays I am deciding to workout Sunday this week and then not take a rest day so I can get on track for Monday. That way it will be Monday through Saturday and then rest on Sunday. Food is going well. Still getting over the sugar addictions and portion changes but overall not too shabby. If I get to where my stomach is grumbling I will snack on a protein bar or some veg and drink a large glass of water and then all is right with the world again. One thing I haven't mentioned is the fact that I am drinking about 10-12 glasses of water each day. It will be nice when the initial shock and soreness goes away. I can say though that I am very glad I was going to the gym regularly before doing this since it's brutal. Loving it though!
Meals
Breakfast:
Smoothie with strawberry whey protein, 1 cup strawberries, water, ice, banana
Snack:
Pure chocolate peanut butter protein bar
Lunch:
2 Mission low carb tortillas (4gm) with canned organic chicken and fresh salsa mixed and heated with fresh baby spinach
Snack:
Red Pear
Dinner:
Pizza! Low carb tortilla with tomato sauce mixed with Oregano,  Pepper and a touch of Splenda, skim mozzarella, lean ground turkey and broccoli.
Snack:
Protein shake with chocolate protein powder, ice, water and 1/4 cup natural plain yogurt.

Here's a pic of the yummy pizza I had tonight.

UPDATE:
Finished ab ripper x and had a protein shake tonight (listed in my meals above). I got a bit farther in them than I did the first round. Off to bed and then back to it tomorrow!

P90x Classic Day 2 - Plyometrics... Oy

Wow. Plyometrics.. K you know how on all of the p90x support sites how people talk about the dreaded plyometrics? All I have to say is HOLY CRAP!!

So it was a good day today. I feel hungry tonight but it's mainly me getting over my cravings. I am not happy with how the Daily Plate excel sheet butchered the last entry so I am just going to manually put what I ate today until I figure out a better solution.

BTW I know some people have questions on whether they should eat before or after their workout. Well I eat after my workout. Tony mentioned in Plyo that he recommends not eating at least an hour before Plyo. I can totally understand his logic. K here goes.

Breakfast:
Blended Smoothie - One cup frozen Great Value mixed berries (great stuff and no added sugars), 1/4 cup Dannon Natural plain yogurt, 1 scoop Body Fortress Strawberry Whey Protein Powder, water, 2 ice cubes.

Snack:
1 Pure chocolate peanut butter protein bar

Lunch:
2 low carb Mission whole wheat tortillas with baby spinach, mustard and Albacore tuna.

Snack:
1 Pure strawberry protein bar (I was feeling very snacky and had extra calories or normally I would only eat one a day. This helped a lot).

Dinner:
6 oz Chicken breast, baked and seasoned, roughly 2 cups of Broccoli and Cauliflower mix.

Snack:
Same smoothie as for breakfast only with frozen peaches instead of berries.

Final percentages today were Protein: 52% Carbs: 27% and Fats: 21%.

I'm really feeling the burn in my chest and arms today. Feels awesome. My legs are also starting to feel it so I'm sure I will be feeling the full weight of the plyometrics sometime tomorrow.

So far so good!! I have been fighting the temptation to weigh myself but at the same time it's been nice not fretting about it.

Bring it!!

P90x Classic Day 1 - Chest, Back and Ab Ripper X

I finished my first day workout this morning. It went well, I have been going to the gym pretty regularly for a few months now but this workout kicked my trash. Mainly comprised of several types of push ups and pull ups mixed with a bit of dumbbell work.

Like I mentioned earlier, I won't be putting up my before and after pics until I have finished the 90 days but my wife did take the pics for me last night. I also took my measurements last night so here they are for day one. I will update again on day 30. I wasn't happy with the weight since I put on about 8 pounds in December thanks to the holidays. Oh well, it will all come off and then some with this program. :)

DAY 1 DAY 30 DAY 60 DAY 90 CHANGE
WEIGHT 204 0 0 0 0
BODY FAT % 27.4 0 0 0 0
CHEST 40.25 0 0 0 0
WAIST 39 0 0 0 0
HIPS 41.25 0 0 0 0
RIGHT THIGH 24 0 0 0 0
LEFT THIGH 24.25 0 0 0 0
RIGHT ARM 12.25 0 0 0 0
LEFT ARM 13 0 0 0 0

I don't intend on weighing myself again until day 30. It's a bit liberating knowing that I don't need to look at the scale every morning to see if I've jumped around. I can't wait until I get to my 30 day results!

I took some more pictures of some of the equipment I am using.

Pull up bar from Golds Gym brand. Worked great in my workout today which was like 75% pull ups.

Standard yoga mat and 2 yoga blocks. Haven't used these yet.

GE Single serve blender. In a word, AWESOME. Cheap too, less than 20 bux. It made the drink you see in the pic below.

Part of my breakfast this morning. Strawberry whey protein, a whole banana, 1 cup frozen raspberries and water. Tasted great.

Golds Gym push up stands. Seem very similar to the ones they use in the vids. I only paid like 8 bux for these.
I will update this entry with my meal data from daily plate along with my percentages tonight when I'm done eating.

UPDATE:

K I did Ab Ripper X tonight. Holy crap I felt like a floppy salmon trying to make it back into the water. Pathetic! But still exciting to be on the path. Here are my eats today from Daily Plate. I will tweak the system as I go

EDIT: I removed the Daily Plate table because it was messing up the format. I am building my own and will put it up when it's ready.

Final percentages today were Protein: 49.53% Carbs: 35.87% and Fats: 14.6%. Not as happy with carbs it was about 5 percent too high but protein was spot on. Will do more fats less carbs tomorrow if possible. Hoping to survive my first round of plyometrics tomorrow!!

One day till p90x starts!!

Getting geared up to start tomorrow. Going to go down this afternoon and get a new blender for mixing my drinks since mine died a while ago. Here are a couple items I bought to get measurements and such because I want to make it easier and I'm only planning on weighing myself on the 0,30,60 and 90 day marks. Measuring and monitoring tools I got were calipers, body tape measure and heart rate monitor.

The 3 monitoring items I purchased. Bowflex heart rate monitor ($29.00), GNC calipers ($10.00) and GNC body tape measure ($10.00)

I got the calipers for about 10 bucks at the GNC store. They work well but it's a bit hard to hear the "click" when the measurement is made. After playing with it for a few minutes I got the hang of it. It also comes with a chart to show where you are at health wise based on body fat.

GNC body tape measure,  Very good tape. Easy to use. Wrap it around the area, put the end of the tape in the slot and then push the release button and the tape tightens. This will come in handy for sure.

Shot of the tape out of the wrapper

Bowflex Heart Rate Monitor notice the $119 price tag. Big 5 had it on sale for $29. I was a happy camper.

Heart Monitor out of the box. I decided to go with the version where you wear a chest strap because I read that it's more accurate than the wrist only version. This one also came with a mount for a bike or treadmill which I thought was nice.

I will be getting a new yoga mat and yoga blocks tonight along with some exercise bands for my wife. I have dumbells already as well as the Golds Gym chin up bar and Golds Gym push up bars from Walmart, they are very similar to the ones they sell on Beach Body.

I won't be putting up any self pics until after the 90 days are up at which point I will put up 0,30,60 and 90 day shots so you can see the results. I will upload my measurements tonight when I take them or in the morning after my first workout.

p90x journey begins next week!

So in deciding to make a blog to track my progress with my first round of p90x, I was a bit disheartened by the number of blogs on blogger that have been created for p90x but that were never updated more than once or twice. That doesn't mean these people didn't complete p90x, it just meant that they gave up on sharing their experience with it.

My intent with this blog is to give in detail the daily account of my p90x venture. I hope I don't fall by the way side like so many others have because I know that I have been searching and searching for detailed accounts of people with their success stories.

I will be starting p90x on January 11th and will be doing the classic version. I will update the blog as I get ready so I can show whoever reads this the equipment I buy to get ready for it, the foods I intend to eat, etc.

Can't wait to start!
